"Meet DJ Sumirock: The 87-year-old Japanese woman who is breaking records and setting the dance floor on fire".

Sumiko Iwamura, better known as DJ Sumirock, is an inspiration to music lovers everywhere. At the age of 87, she leads a double life as the owner of her own restaurant by day and a professional club DJ by night.

Sumirock's love of DJing began when her friend Adrien suggested she give it a try. At the age of 77, she decided to attend DJ school and began to hone her skills. Six years later, she still works in her kitchen during the day and manages to DJ at night, once or twice a month.

In 2018, Sumirock was awarded the Guinness World Records title for the oldest professional club DJ at the age of 83 years and 118 days. She has a regular gig at Shinjuku's Decabar Z, but also travels to clubhouses around the world, including Paris and New Zealand.

Sumirock's favourite music is techno, but she also mixes in rock, jazz and even some anime soundtracks. The tracks she chooses, however, can vary greatly depending on her mood.

Despite her impressive achievements, Sumirock remains modest and humble. Her advice to those who are struggling is to never give up and always try something new. As she puts it, "There are opportunities every day".

Sumirock's story is a testament to the power of music and the importance of pursuing one's passions, regardless of age. Her ability to juggle two very different careers and her dedication to both is truly inspiring. She reminds us that it's never too late to start something new and that with hard work and determination, anything is possible.
